New Shoes and Running Socks!!!

I have been having a dull pain in the arch of my right foot for a few weeks now.  I have also noticed that at times I have been gripping the ground (well shoe) more with my toes on my right foot.  Yesterday I decided it was time for a new pair of running shoes, so I went to the local running store.  I love, love, love this place!  The employees are extremely helpful.  I had been running in Nike Air Pegasus shoes, and the employee who worked with me showed me the difference in the cushioning of a newer pair and my pair.  Man, I did need new shoes!  He was able to completely flatting my shoe cushioning with his fingers, which is probably why I have been having foot pain.

I first tried on the newer Nike Air Pegasus.  I also tried on a pair of Mizuno shoes.  For anyone who has been following my blog from the beginning, you know that my first shoe fitting I was fitted for Mizuno shoes but had to exchange them (for the Nike shoes) since the Mizuno shoes hurt my pinky toe.  Since that time, I was told that Mizuno has increased the size the shoe around the toes, but it still did not feel super comfortable for me.  Then I tried a pair of Asics.  I love the extra support around the heel of the shoe.  I also felt the shoe had a bit more arch support, which I liked.  After jogging around in both, I decided on the Asics.  What was even better was that they were on sale and came in purple (the newer Nikes were in white, garnet and gold)!
I <3 purple.
I also wanted to get some running socks.  The store was having a buy 3 get 1 free sale on Feetures! running socks.  A pair of socks costs $9.99, which is not bad compared to other running socks I researched.  I love the ways these feel on my foot.  I got the socks with a bit more cushioning at the ball and heel of the foot.  They also have this cool extra "tab" at the back that adds extra padding and helps prevent the sock from slipping down into the shoe.  The extra padding works great with the new shoes, since the new shoes have that extra heel support and come up a little bit higher in the back compared to my Nikes.
Love the fit and the tab in the back.
Do you see the cool padded tab on the sock, right at my heel?
Naturally, I had to go for a run when I got home to start to break in the new shoes!  My run yesterday, just like a run I did on Tuesday, was pretty painful in that I was exhausted for the entire run.  My body just has not had energy the past couple of days.  I was however very happy with my shoes!

Tuesday run:
Mile 1:  10:13
Mile 2:  10:05
(I was soaked with sweat after this run!)

Wednesday run:
Mile 1:  9:56
Mile 2:  9:25

I am taking today and tomorrow off from running.  My mom is coming to visit tomorrow, so I have lots of extra cleaning I want to do tonight.  I have plans to run early on Saturday, before we head out so I can show my mom around my new neck of the woods.  We have a really fun weekend planned, so I am looking forward to sharing it with you all!

Finally, last night Chris and I made a really good chicken stir fry.  It was delicious!  (The picture looks very green... I think I will add some red peppers next time.)  The picture only shows the veggies and sesame seeds.  We also added brown rice, but I apparently forgot to pull that picture off of my camera.  Oops.

I hope you all have a fantastic Thursday!!!

  1. I own my 2nd pair of Asics now and love them! I swear I have one foot just a tick longer than the other, and I have found the Asics give me lots of toe room. Love the purple, super cute!!

  2. Nice shoes!!! I'm running in Saucony shoes and then bought Mizuno (because they looked prettier) but I had to return them, they hurt. Saucony has a very large toe room and they are super cushioned, but the look needs to be improved. Your Ascics rock! :)

  3. Everyone seems to be getting new shoes! I should join the bandwagon. Those socks also look comfy. It's weird how a little pair of socks can totally affect someones running.

  4. I'm so jealous of your socks! I had the issue of my Asics rubbing on my ankles. Those socks would have been life savers. :)

Yay for new shoes and the sale. SCORE!!
