Registered for my first marathon!!!

It is official!  This morning Caitlin and I registered for The National Marathon To Finish Breast Cancer!  It is taking place on February 13, 2010.  I know I have mentioned it before, but now that I am registered it feels so much more real.  I am soooooo excited!

Now I have to attempt to relax and fall asleep early, since I have a race in the morning.  I cannot wait!  I'll be back with updates tomorrow.

I hope you all have had a fantastic Friday!

  1. WOW, congratulations!! That is very exciting! I know exactly how you feel. A week ago,I registered for my first marathon as well. It would be nice if we could share some experience! :) Do you have already a training plan selected?

  2. WOW Congrats! and congrats on the Gr* to Don8 race! (just read the recap on HTP) :) I think everyone should become an organ donor if they can because you don't need them after you die, they're just sitting there, while somone is dying and could use them. When I'm old enough, I'm going to donate blood and get the donor sticker on my license.

  3. Thank you both so much for commenting on my blog. It really makes my day!

Christine: I am excited to read about your marathon training as well! I would love to share experiences. As I mentioned on your blog, I'm going with my own version of the Galloway method... hopefully with less walking and maybe an additional day of running, but I'd like to follow the Galloway distance goals up to 22 miles.

Amanda: I think donating blood is great. I am not able to donate blood, since I do not meet some of the requirements, but I would if I could. If for some reason I am unable to donate my organs, I would like to donate my body to science in hopes of helping someone in some way.

  4. Following an establishing training plan like Galloway right upto 22miles is really important - coming from someone who was following a program but fell short due to injury.

I suffered on the day of the marathon as a result, not my legs but psychological (hardest thing I've ever done) and my abs which were strained from all the impact (like a stitch that didn't go away for the entire 2nd half of the race).

Make sure you practice your nutrition and fluid strategy and be mindful of the likely weather on the day.

I am sure you'll have an amazing day, just prepare well and you'll enjoy it more!
