My talk at the conference went great this morning! Then I spent the day listening to other talks and collecting cool stuff from the exhibitors. I started my day off with a delicious smoothie! It had a banana, frozen dark cherries, a packet of fat-free hot cocoa mix, spinach, flax, milk, and some oatmeal (too make it more filling). I really enjoyed it and plan to make a repeat tomorrow.
After the conference, I came home and took a nap. That was very nice! Then I headed out for a run. Let me just say that today made up for yesterday! I never like to look at Garmy while I'm running. If I'm going slower than I think I feel sad, if I'm going faster than I think then I anticipate a cramp coming. It's like a game with myself not to look at my pace or time. I will purposely only look at the distance when I need to know when to stop. I headed out intending to do four but really wanting to do six. I started later than I should have and it was dark by the time I finished, but I did get my six! In fact, I decided I'd like to go for a 10K and near the end I had decided to make it to the entrance to the complex and ended up at 6.26 miles. I had been wishing/praying in my head that I was at least going a 10:30 pace. I was feeling really good! I was quite surprised by my time!
Mile 1: 9:23
Mile 2: 9:08
Mile 3: 9:07
Mile 4: 9:14
Mile 5: 9:15
Mile 6: 9:11
Last bit: 2:17 (8:38 pace)
Total time: 57:34
Average pace: 9:11 (Oh yeah!!!!)
WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That has left me very happy! Chris and I had a yummy dinner, some wine, and now I'm waiting for The Big Bang Theory to come on. Then bed and up at 5:30 again to start my day off with a smoothie before the conference.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention in yesterday's post that I saw a fox at the race! It was the first time I had ever seen one in the wild, which was pretty cool (especially since I saw it as it was running by about a hundred feet in front of me).
This blog was started as a way of keeping myself motivated to keep working out, and the blog has been successful in that aspect. I started running in 2007, and it really has transformed my life. I have discovered so many inspiring individuals through the "blog world" and many delicious recipes. I use this blog to keep track of my training and write about the fun things in life. Keep checking back to read about my training for my first marathon, in February 2011.
Kyle and I do morning smoothies, too. I like to add 2T of wheat germ (which is usually in the ceral aisle near the oatmeal) per smoothie to add fiber, a teensy bit of healthy fat as well as B vitamins, folic acid, &c.
ReplyDeleteSometime we use the same amount of ground flax (in the baking aisle, usually with the fancy flours) instead.
